Reward Volunteers Is Celebrating 1,000th B Corp By Continuing To Honor Volunteers

May 23, 2014, 13:47 ET from Cabot Creamery Cooperative

CABOT, Vt., May 23, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Last week, B Lab announced one of their proudest achievements since their founding in 2006. The nonprofit organization, which seeks to redefine success in business by holding companies to rigorous sustainable practice standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency, has recently granted its 1,000th B Corp Certification. As the world's first cheese maker and dairy cooperative to achieve B Corp Certification, the farm families who own Cabot Creamery Cooperative have long been supporters of the same principles on which B Corp was founded, and it is those principles which led to the creation, and growing success, of the Reward Volunteers program.

"We are extremely proud to be one of the 1,000 companies that have been granted B Corp certification," says Jen Neary, Cabot Director of Marketing, Integrated Services. "B Corp certified companies promote sustainable, profitable business practices while simultaneously remaining good stewards of the environment and supporting the communities they serve. With Rewards Volunteers 5.0, Cabot has been identifying and rewarding individuals and non-profit organizations who are also highly committed to serving their communities."

In the spirit of cooperation and in support of the B Corp mantra of supporting the communities they serve, fellow B Corp members King Arthur Flour, Dansko, Ben and Jerry's, Gardener's Supply, and Vermont Creamery, along with other partners, support Reward Volunteers by providing prizes for the program and supporting volunteer efforts in the communities they serve.

Reward Volunteers launched in February of 2012. Since then, the program has grown every month, and given away thousands of dollars in cash and prizes to deserving volunteers and volunteer organizations. Reward Volunteers 5.0, the fifth iteration of the revolutionary iPhone app and web widget, has already seen more than 2,500 acts of kindness, generosity, and community support - totaling more than 15,886 hours - logged by individuals in service of non-profit organizations across the country.

The Reward Volunteers iPhone App and web widget from Cabot Creamery Cooperative enables individuals and organizations to track the time they spend volunteering in their communities, post to Facebook, and earn rewards for themselves and the organizations they serve. At the end of each month, Cabot rewards volunteers for their hard work, and for inspiring friends and family to do the same, with a variety of prizes. The more hours volunteers log, the more chances to win. Participation is absolutely free.

One of those selfless individuals, and one of April's Reward Volunteers winners, is Bonnie Gulas-Wroblewski, the founder and director of Dove Key Ranch Wildlife Rehabilitation in Alleyton, Texas.

"Dove Key Ranch Wildlife Rehabilitation, Inc. is a donor-supported 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization dedicated to the rehabilitation and release of orphaned, injured, and/or ill wildlife. We provide medical and supportive care to native Texas wildlife ranging from reptiles and amphibians to birds and mammals, specializing in skunk rehabilitation. I am very excited to win the Von Trapp Farm cheese and gift certificate to Dakin Farms. This will make excellent fuel for all of our upcoming education programs and the busy wildlife baby season ahead. Thank you, Reward Volunteers!"

The prize list has grown for Reward Volunteers 5.0, and includes:
