Grand Circus Park Station Reopens

    DETROIT, April 2 /PRNewswire/ -- While April 3 is opening day for the
 Detroit Tigers, it is also opening day for the Detroit People Mover's Station
 at Grand Circus Park.  Adjacent to Comerica Park, the Grand Circus Park
 Station is at Woodward and Park streets, just a few steps from the stadium.
 The station had been closed since October 1998.
     "The People Mover provides a very quick and convenient way to reach not
 only Comerica Park but other popular destinations in the area such as Harmonie
 Park, the Detroit Opera House and the Gem Theatre," said Sandra Bomar Parker,
 acting general manager of the Detroit Transportation Corporation (DTC).  "You
 can park in several downtown parking lots and enjoy the service of the People
 Mover right to the center of all of these activities."
     Trains depart approximately every four minutes from each People Mover
 station.  The stations are:  Times Square (Grand River/Park Pl.), Michigan
 (Michigan/Cass), Fort Cass (Fort/Cass), Cobo Center (Washington Blvd./Larned),
 Joe Louis Arena (Atwater/Jefferson), Financial District (Larned/Griswold),
 Millender Center (Jefferson/Randolph), Renaissance Center
 (Jefferson/Renaissance Dr.), Bricktown (Beaubien/Fort), Greektown
 (Monroe/Brush), Broadway (Broadway/John R) and Grand Circus Park
 (Woodward/Park St.).  The Cadillac Center station is temporarily closed due to
 construction of the new Compuware building.
     For the locations of parking facilities nearest the People Mover stations,
 contact the following:  Municipal Parking at 313-967-1600; Miller Parking at
 313-259-2434; Mobile Parking at 313-965-6553; and Park-Rite Parking at
 313-965-7275.
     The People Mover's hours of operation are:  Monday - Thursday 7 a.m. -
 11 p.m.; Friday 7 a.m. - Midnight; Saturday 9 a.m. - Midnight; Sunday Noon -
 8 p.m.  In the event a ballgame goes into extra innings and extends beyond the
 People Mover's regular schedule, the DTC will continue the People Mover's
 service at least one hour after the game.
     Fare for the People Mover is 50 cents per ride.  Any combination of U.S.
 nickels, dimes and quarters or one DPM token may be used for entry.  Persons
 certified as handicapped, Medicare card holders and the elderly are eligible
 for discounted (50%) passes and tokens.  Children five (5) years and under
 ride free.
     The Grand Circus Park station is currently accessible by stairway only.
 Patrons requiring an elevator/escalator should access/exit the Broadway or
 Times Square station.  After exiting at Broadway or Times Square, those
 individuals whose destination is Grand Circus Park can use the emergency phone
 to request a lift-equipped vehicle to transport them to the Grand Circus Park
 station.  Those patrons at the Grand Circus Park station who require an
 elevator/escalator to access the system can use the emergency phone at the
 Grand Circus Park station to request a lift-equipped vehicle to transport them
 to the nearest station where they can access the system.
