Ridge Administration Announces $32 Million for Youth Job Training

    HARRISBURG, Pa., April 18 /PRNewswire/ -- On behalf of Pennsylvania Gov.
 Tom Ridge, Labor and Industry Secretary Johnny J. Butler today announced the
 release of $32.4 million in federal funds for youth job-training and education
 programs throughout Pennsylvania.
     "These funds will help disadvantaged youth throughout the Commonwealth to
 increase their chances for success in Pennsylvania's workforce," Secretary
 Butler said.  "We recognize that our greatest resource lies in our young
 people, and we must ensure that they are prepared to take Pennsylvania into
 the future."
     The funds are made available through the Workforce Investment Act (WIA)
 Title I Youth Funds, which will provide education and job-training programs
 and services for youth between the ages of 14 and 21.
     The funding is for the program period beginning on July 1, 2001, and
 ending June 30, 2002.
 
     NOTE:  A list of the 23 Workforce Investment Areas, the counties they
 serve and their funding amount follows.
