Robert L. Parker Receives Spindletop's Waggener-Griffin Award

    TULSA, Okla., April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Robert L. Parker, chairman of
 Parker Drilling Company (NYSE:   PKD), will receive the Don E. Waggener-Butch
 Griffin Award tomorrow at the 36th Annual Spindletop Oilman's Golf Tournament
 in Houston.
     Parker was chosen as a recipient of this prestigious award on the basis of
 his distinguished achievements within the oil field services industry and the
 community at large.  The award is presented annually by the Spindletop Board
 of Trustees honoring the memory of Don E. Waggener, founder of PETCO, Inc.,
 and Loy D. "Butch" Griffin, founder of Spindletop International.
     "It's an honor to present this award to Mr. Parker.  He has played an
 important role in the oil field service industry and in his commitment to

     Robert Parker has been involved in the drilling service industry since
 1944 when he went to work for his father.  Ten years later he purchased the
