NEW YORK, Sept. 22, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Rothstein Kass (, a leading professional services provider to the financial services industry, has announced that Howard Altman, Co-CEO and Principal-in-Charge of the firm's Financial Services Group, has been elected Treasurer of the Managed Funds Association (MFA). Mr. Altman has also been appointed by the MFA to serve a one-year term as a member of the organization's Board of Directors. Based in Washington, D.C., the MFA represents the global alternative investment industry and its investors by advocating for sound industry practices and public policies that foster efficient, transparent, and fair capital markets.

"When Rothstein Kass took on our first alternative investment industry clients almost 25 years ago, we recognized the fantastic growth potential the sector represented. Building on our reputation for providing superior service to sophisticated clients, we created a dedicated team of professionals focused exclusively on supporting the hedge fund community," said Steve Kass, Co-CEO and Co-Managing Principal at Rothstein Kass. "Since that time, Rothstein Kass has grown in lockstep with the industry, as hedge funds have evolved from a niche investment class for high-net worth individuals to become an integral component of a growing number of institutional portfolios – including many pension funds. From the onset, Howard has been critical to these efforts, in the process establishing a reputation as one of the foremost authorities on hedge funds and the challenges that they face."

The MFA's Board of Directors provides governance oversight for the association's education, advocacy, and outreach on global issues impacting the hedge fund industry. The Board also determines MFA's policy priorities and ensures the proper resources are in place to allow for the association's constructive contribution to policy debates. MFA's Board of Directors is comprised of a diverse group of industry leaders from member firms who collectively represent a cross-section of the hedge fund industry.

"Historically, the alternative investment sector has been an industry that has benefited pension fund investors and their participants. The continued institutionalization and globalization of the business have compelled the community to better balance the need for greater openness with the imperative to protect proprietary information. At the same time, managers are contending a more persistent and intense regulatory focus that has added to compliance challenges," said Mr. Altman. "We are extremely proud of our relationship with the MFA in support of its efforts to encourage thoughtful reform that promotes greater alignment of investor and manager interests. Being elected Treasurer by the members of the MFA and my appointment to the Board are tremendous honors to me, but are a credit to the more than 900 team members at Rothstein Kass who shape our culture while providing the foundation for our success."
