SBS Technologies, Inc. Announces Next Generation Five-Nines CompactPCI(R) High Availability System

Mar 06, 2001, 00:00 ET from SBS Technologies, Inc.

    ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., March 6 /PRNewswire/ -- SBS Technologies, Inc.
(Nasdaq: SBSE), a leader in high-performance OEM telecommunications platforms
and subsystems, will introduce the Cascade II High Availability (HA) System at
the Computer Telephony Expo in Los Angeles, March 6 through 8.
Featuring PowerPC(TM) technology with a 12" depth chassis designed to meet
NEBS standards, the Cascade II HA system offers a unique, scalable and
flexible architecture to the world of high-performance embedded computing.
Building upon its existing Cascade High Availability product family, Cascade
II is designed for demanding mission critical OEM telecommunications and
networking applications targeting customers providing Central Office (CO)
destined servers and/or target convergence systems.
"The introduction of Cascade II further supports our commitment to
continuously offer our OEM telecommunications customers the high-performance,
modularity and cost-efficiency they require to remain competitive in the time
to market race," states Dan Grey, Vice President of Sales, SBS Technologies.
"SBS is pleased to present the telecom marketplace with the only five-nines HA
solution featuring PowerPC technology and 12" depth chassis designed for NEBS
compliance and look forward to continued development of similar breakthrough
 products in the future."
Designed to meet five-nines (99.999%) up-time, Cascade II is supported by
two SBS K2-HA CompactPCI(R) single board computers (based on PowerPC 750 500
MHz processor) offering HA system management, hot swap controllers and
System/non-System operation. The basic system also includes hot swap
redundant power supplies, and SBS' Whitney(TM) watchdog alarm module which
delivers high-level monitoring and failover control for system controllers and
peripherals. Bundled in a 19" rack featuring a sturdy, modular design with
state-of-the-art reverse impeller blowers, Cascade II offers a full range of
telecommunications options for OEM use, including a 24-port Ethernet switch,
 T1/E1, OC3 and more.
SBS is strategically positioned as the only provider of a fault-tolerant,
HA system offering the richest mix of WAN/convergence interface support from
56k to ATM-OC3 as well as enabling communications protocols such as PPP, HDLC,
Frame Relay, ATM and SS7. Another added benefit for SBS' series of HA
products is its ability and willingness to customize the systems based on the
 specific requirements of OEM customers.

     Software Support
Available software for Cascade II includes HA-aware device drivers
(PICMG-compliant); alarm management; and shells for heart-beat, check point,
policy management, Network Management System, and custom application-specific
software. Software support includes VxWorks(R) for real-time control,
 Linux(R) and GoAhead software.

     Pricing and Availability
List pricing for Cascade II begins at $18,995. Availability is 60 days
ARO for the basic VxWorks-based system. Linux and GoAhead software are
planned for release in the third quarter of 2001. For more detailed pricing
