BELLEVUE, Wash., Nov. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- ScaleOut Software, a leading provider of distributed data grids, today unveiled ScaleOut StateServer® 5.0 (version 5.0), expanding its GeoServer and Grid Computing Editions with new features, such as automatic global data integration and full parallel Microsoft Language Integrated Query (LINQ). In addition, the software includes the ability to perform fully parallel queries to retrieve .NET and Java-based objects alongside increased security features and enhanced virtual machine support.
Version 5.0 is the first to link together distributed data grids at various sites into a single, logically coherent grid, enabling developers to seamlessly migrate data across geographies without the need to replicate data from site to site. This saves both development time and resources.
"Global data integration is key to large organizations, such as financial services firms and e-commerce companies, which store fast-changing application data at multiple locations and need to access it from remote sites. Replicating data to all locations is not practical for them, and manually tracking where it is stored and controlling access is costly, error-prone and inefficient," said Dr. William L. Bain, founder and CEO of ScaleOut Software. "By helping developers and architects access data transparently from any networked distributed data grid location, they can drastically simplify their applications and create important new capabilities, such as seamlessly migrating application data into the cloud for processing."
For the first time, the .NET community can use parallel LINQ queries to access selected groups of data in the distributed data grid through a powerful, familiar and standard .NET query mechanism. Users can automatically retrieve objects from the grid based on their properties, simplifying the structure of queries while maintaining fast access from all grid servers. Java users enjoy the same parallel query functionality with standard APIs.
Enterprise applications users and financial institutions will particularly benefit from this release, as it advances the use of distributed data grids for data mining and analysis. The global data integration feature enables users to broaden the reach for data to be analyzed.
For organizations with multiple applications accessing data within a single distributed data grid, version 5.0 increases security. Data that requires higher levels of security can now be protected from unauthorized access using a fully extensible authentication mechanism. Access to named groups of objects within the distributed data grid is now controlled and by default, named groups can be authenticated using the operating system's user accounts.
Version 5.0 also enables VMWare users to license ScaleOut StateServer with an installer that will automatically create a VMWare distributed data grid appliance, providing a very fast and easy way to bring up the distributed data grid on VMWare virtual servers.
Version 5.0 boosts ScaleOut StateServer's membership mechanisms for increased performance and robustness in virtual server environments. For example, heartbeat connections can now adapt to highly variable network delays often experienced when using virtual servers.
With this new release, ScaleOut Software is taking a major step to drive the use of distributed data grids into cloud computing and other virtual server environments. The global data integration feature enables cloud computing environments to form logical distributed data grids, spanning on-premise and cloud locations. This enables seamless data integration in and out of the cloud. It also serves as the foundation for the next generation of parallel data analysis using distributed grids.
Version 5.0 of ScaleOut StateServer is fully compatible with all the other ScaleOut Software options and products. It can be deployed standalone, and it can be enhanced with ScaleOut GeoServer® and ScaleOut Management Pack(TM).
ScaleOut StateServer 5.0 will be showcased at the Microsoft Professional Developer's Conference (PDC), booth #211 at the Los Angeles Convention Center from November 17-19, 2009.
