Seagate and Rorke Data Team Up to Demonstrate High-Capacity, Scalable SAN Solutions for A/V Markets

Apr 23, 2001, 01:00 ET from Seagate Technology

LAS VEGAS, April 23 /PRNewswire Interactive News Release/ -- The audio and
video broadcasting markets have moved to digital as the medium of choice and
Seagate and Rorke (a subsidiary of Bell Microproducts, Inc. (Nasdaq: BELM))
are working together this week at the National Association of Broadcasters
(NAB) in Las Vegas to showcase their latest Fibre-Channel and SCSI storage
solutions for this growing market. The demonstrations are targeted to audio
and video professionals that require the bandwidth and storage capacities
demanded by new technologies such as High-Definition Television (HDTV) as well
as being ideal solutions for animation, streaming, video server and broadcast
applications. Seagate will feature its Barracuda 180 and Cheetah 73LP disc
drives incorporated into various Rorke solutions, such as StudioNet-FC,
ImageSAN, and its MaxArray lines of products. The demonstrations can be seen
at Rorke Data's booth # I6442 in the Sands Expo Center. Seagate will also be
showcasing its latest disc drives and technologies within the FCIA's partner
pavilion booth #M8757 in the Sands Expo Center.
"Seagate drives used in conjunction with Rorke's digital video-centric SAN
and RAID products like StudioNet-FC or ImageSAN continue to deliver the
performance required by factors such as increased resolution and higher-speed
rendering," said Rorke Data's Bob Herzan, vice president of worldwide
audio/video sales. "Rorke Data's SAN solutions are also freely scalable to
whatever capacities are demanded by our customers."
"The market has responded enthusiastically to Seagate's Barracuda
180 since its introduction, and this is demonstrating that there is a
continuing need for greater storage capacity in just about all markets today,"
said Henry Fabian, Seagate director of enterprise and personal storage product
marketing. "Companies such as Rorke Data that produce quality SAN products are
helping the adoption rates further. The Cheetah 73 is a more recent addition
to our family of 10K rpm products and is made for those applications requiring
even faster performance. We look forward to working with Rorke, and their
parent company, San Jose-based Bell Microproducts, at NAB to demonstrate both
of these storage solutions for A/V professionals."
