JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Nov. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Seal Shield LLC, a worldwide leader in waterproof input devices and other infection control solutions, today announced the publication of the U.S. patent application for its keyboard waterproofing technology. U.S. patent application number 20090262492 was published on October 22, 2009.
"From the Infection Prevention standpoint, I believe this is the most significant advance I have seen in this 'contaminated little corner' of the hospital environment in two decades of practice," says William Hamilton, Fresno VA Infection Prevention and Control Coordinator.
"Seal Shield keyboards are unique because they are dishwasher safe, completely waterproof, and feature antimicrobial protection, yet they function as a standard keyboard," states Brad Whitchurch, CEO of Seal Shield, LLC. "Our technology seals the internal components without external rubber coatings or individual key seals."
"We are excited about the publication of this patent application, and believe that through licensing, Seal Shield's unique design will become the standard in keyboard construction. We have already licensed the technology to several industry leaders, and are currently engaged in licensing discussions with a number of others. It is clear from those arrangements that the market potential for this exciting, new technology is well recognized," says J. Andrew McCarthy, Jr., VP of Intellectual Property for Seal Shield LLC. "While imitations of Seal Shield's patent pending technology are inevitable, once our patent issues, we can recover damages from infringers for the period between publication and issuance. We are committed to continuing to expand our market share, and the vigorous protection of our intellectual property is an important component of that effort."
The latest keyboard incorporating Seal Shield technology, the SILVER SURF Wireless Keyboard, began shipping in September 2009 and is priced at $49. www.sealshield.com
