SFX Announces Tweeter As New Name-In-Title Holder For the E-Centre

Apr 04, 2001, 01:00 ET from SFX

    CAMDEN, N.J., April 4 /PRNewswire/ -- SFX, the world's largest producer
and marketer of live entertainment, announced today that the nation's premier
specialty consumer electronics retailer Tweeter has acquired the name-in-title
rights to the E-Centre in Camden, New Jersey. Beginning today, the popular
Philadelphia and South Jersey-area venue now carries the name Tweeter Center
At the Waterfront. The announcement comes as Tweeter simultaneously changes
the names of its Bryn Mawr stores to the Tweeter brand.
Adjacent to the New Jersey State Aquarium on 14 acres along the Delaware
River, the Tweeter Center At the Waterfront opened in June 1995 representing
a revolution in amphitheater technology. The first-of-its-kind year-round
facility, one of 44 amphitheaters owned or operated by SFX, serves as a
25,000-capacity outdoor venue during the summer months. It features a huge
lawn with giant video screens, state-of-the-art computerized sound
enhancement, and spectacular views of the Philadelphia skyline and Ben
Franklin Bridge. In the fall and winter, the Tweeter Center At the
Waterfront converts to a fully enclosed, climate-controlled theatre with the
flexibility to seat up to 7,000 guests. During that time of the year, the
venue offers a variety of concerts, Broadway theatrical productions and
 family entertainment.
This summer, the Tweeter Center At the Waterfront will continue its
tradition of hosting the most exciting and diverse musical talents,
including: The Black Crowes and Oasis, Dave Matthews Band, Backstreet Boys,
Ozzfest 2001, Bon Jovi and Jimmy Buffett & the Coral Reefer Band.
Additional acts expected to go on-sale shortly at the Tweeter Center At the
Waterfront include David Copperfield, Roxy Music, Dido, James Taylor, Rod
Stewart, Journey with Peter Frampton and John Waite and Alice 104.5's
Rockin' Summer Party with Midnight Oil, INXS and Men at Work.
"This is a joining of two entities devoted to music -- the top electronics
retailer and the premier venue for live entertainment," said Wilson Rogers,
Vice President of Music Operations for the Mid-Atlantic Region of the SFX
Music Group. "We look forward to working with Tweeter to build their brand
among the music fans while at the same time ensuring that the venue
continues to deliver the highest quality experience to our patrons."
"We have realized the value of name-in-title agreements. In 1999, we
bought the naming rights to SFX's Tweeter Center in the Boston area and have
seen our customer share increase by 146 percent," said Noah Herschman, Vice
President of Marketing for Tweeter Home Entertainment Group. "Attaching our
brand to the Tweeter Center At the Waterfront will not only provide added
benefits for our employees and customers in the South Jersey / Philadelphia
areas -- like concert tickets and outings -- but will also promote our brand
 on a national level."
In addition to the change in name, patrons of the Tweeter Center At the
Waterfront this year will notice all new concession stand signage and menu
boards, new parking lots adjacent to the south side of the venue, two
state-of-the-art lawn projectors, new lawn chairs and a
wheelchair-accessible lawn ramp. Tweeter Center At the Waterfront has also
made aesthetic improvements to its lobbies and backstage including new
 carpeting, pictures, furniture and displays.
SFX and Tweeter also announced today that Tweeter has acquired the
name-in-title rights to the New World Music Theater in Chicago, renaming one
of the premier entertainment venues in the Chicago area to Tweeter Center.
With the addition of the Camden and Chicago venues, Tweeter becomes one of
the leading marketers in name-in-title agreements for outdoor amphitheaters
in the country. Tweeter also owns the rights to the Tweeter Center in
Boston as well as the HiFi Buys Amphitheatre in Atlanta.
