LILLE, France, ITEC 2001, Booth 420, April 24 /PRNewswire Interactive News
Release/ -- SGI (NYSE: SGI), the industry's first choice for high-performance
image generation solutions, today announced that it has extended its
leadership in the multichannel visual simulation market with the introduction
of SGI(TM) PC-IG solutions, delivering an unprecedented combination of
 performance, affordability and investment protection.
SGI PC-IG solutions based on the SGI Graphics Cluster(TM) series of
high-performance visualization systems leverage commercial off-the-shelf
products with SGI hardware and software technology, providing an integrated
hardware and software platform. Built on a standard Intel(R) architecture that
supports popular PC operating systems and commercially available subsystems,
application programming interfaces and accelerators, SGI PC-IG solutions offer
 best-of-class visualization performance.
"We have been using SGI technology for the past 12 years and are excited
to hear about the addition of the SGI PC-IG solutions," said Yariv Gershony,
chief design engineer, BVR Systems Ltd. "Now, more than ever, we feel that our
relationship with SGI will allow us to tackle any visual simulation
requirement with a full range of the highest quality and most cost-effective
 solutions available."
"Exclusive SGI PC-IG features combined with the flexibility and
performance of the Mantis open-platform image-generation software system will
set a new standard in affordability for the vis-sim market," said
Barlow Blake, vice president of marketing, CG2 Inc.
Advanced hardware, integrated software, bundled APIs such as OpenGL
Performer(TM) and rich feature sets such as SGI ImageSync(TM), SGI
DataSync(TM) and SGI(TM) SynaptIQ(TM) software combine to provide unmatched
 price/performance for visual-simulation applications.
     Using industry-leading SGI VPro(TM) VR7 graphics, based on NVIDIA(R)
technology, with full-scene anti-aliasing and gigapixel fill performance, SGI
ImageSync provides high-precision, fully locked video and frame-buffer
synchronization between visual channels, ensuring that visual immersion
requirements are met cost-effectively with multiple-channel displays. SGI
ImageSync allows customers to take full advantage of the rapid evolution of
graphics technology by integrating this capability into easily upgraded VPro
 graphics.
SGI Graphics Cluster systems have the flexibility to meet a broad range of
application requirements, offering two customizable models to meet diverse
cost and performance requirements. Available with either single or dual Intel
Pentium(R) III processors running the Linux(R) or Windows NT(R) operating
system, SGI VPro graphics and basic interconnect housed within a rugged,
rack-mounted chassis, customers can also choose from a variety of commercially
available networking and storage options-such as Gigabyte Ethernet and storage
area networks-to meet their application and budget requirements.
SGI PC-IG solutions are backed up by the SGI global support
infrastructure, including SGI Professional Services and Managed Services
organizations, which are ready to deliver customized on-site worldwide SGI
service and support for complete visual simulation and training solutions that
 reduce total cost of ownership.

     About SGI Graphics Cluster Series
The SGI Graphics Cluster series offers several models to meet diverse cost
and performance requirements, with an entry-level price point of $9,500 per
visual channel. The series supports a variety of standard PC operating systems
