SGI Names Paul F. McNamara Vice President of Open Source

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Jan. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- SGI (NYSE: SGI) today
announced that Paul F. McNamara has been named vice president of open source
for SGI. In this role, McNamara, 39, will be responsible for formulating SGI's
plans and guiding its actions as SGI strengthens its commitment to the
Linux(R) operating system and the open-source movement. He will report to
Kenneth L. Coleman, executive vice president of Global Sales, Service and
Marketing, SGI.

Prior to joining SGI, McNamara was vice president of business development
and later vice president of products and platforms for
Red Hat, Inc. (Nasdaq: RHAT), where he was a key figure in Red Hat's meteoric
rise to prominence in the computer industry. McNamara joined Red Hat in
May 1998 and was responsible for negotiating and structuring Red Hat's
industry-shaping relationships with Compaq, Dell, IBM, Intel, Oracle, SAP and
others. McNamara was also a key architect of Red Hat's subscription-based
business model.
Prior to joining Red Hat, McNamara was president and chief operating
officer of Asset Management Technologies (AMT), a software company that he
founded in 1994. Prior to AMT, McNamara held a series of management positions
at IBM. McNamara earned his B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Drexel
University.
