AMES, Iowa, June 19 /PRNewswire/ -- SGI (NYSE: SGI) announced today its
latest solution for collaborative visualization, SGI(TM) Reality Center(TM)
 3300W (TM) a flexible, high-resolution, multiprojector, 13 x 4-foot wall
display. Bringing together the power of group visualization at a lower cost
and easy installation, Reality Center 3300W transforms the way people view
data and complex concepts in boardrooms, conference rooms and laboratories.
"By providing group visualization in an off-the-shelf product, more
organizations will be able to equip their small and medium-size workgroups
with collaborative capabilities," said Linda Jacobson, SGI's senior manager
for Reality Center marketing. "This can transform the way scientists,
engineers, designers and educators review their work, present ideas and
explore concepts in a group setting using virtual environments and models,
without the high costs traditionally associated with building large-scale
 immersive facilities."
SGI Reality Center 3300W can display engineering, design and technical
data, brilliant 3D graphics, video sources and even common PC laptop
applications, with up to five million pixels appearing across a single,
seamless display. Featuring an innovative rear-projected design, it is
cost-effective and installs easily in less than a day. It is intended for use
in conference rooms, laboratories and trade show exhibits and requires no
 facility modifications.
Mercedes-Benz Advanced Design of North America is the first customer to
acquire a Reality Center 3300W wall display. "SGI is a company that really
understands the collaborative visualization needs of our industry," said
Andrew Moir, designer at Mercedes-Benz Advanced Design of North America. "We
are planning to use the Reality Center 3300W facility to visualize future
designs of our automobiles. This display will enable us to review and
refine complex styling concepts more effectively."
Reality Center 3300W is being introduced at the International Immersive
Projection Technology 2000 workshop, a leading conference on virtual reality
and immersive technologies hosted by Iowa State University this week.
"SGI's commitment to and leadership in collaborative visualization is
well-known to the virtual reality community, and we are delighted that SGI
decided to unveil its Reality Center wall in our lab during the IPT 2000
workshop, " said Dr. Carolina Cruz-Neira, Litton assistant professor of
electrical and computer engineering at Iowa State University.
