LOS ANGELES, April 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Pacific Palisades Community of
Faith, an ecumenical organization comprised of ten prominent local religious
institutions, will kick-off a special weeklong "Celebration of Our Shared
Values," on Tuesday, May 1 at 10:15 a.m. with a special presentation of
neighborhood children's hopes and aspirations at the "Prayer, Hope & Dreams
Wall", at 15310 Sunset Boulevard in the heart of the Pacific Palisades
 business district.
The Prayer, Hope & Dreams Wall will serve as a sign of community spirit,
fellowship, unity and trust and a physical outlet for the expression of
community values throughout Los Angeles. Area residents are encouraged to add
their thoughts, feelings and opinions about shared values to The Wall during
the six days it will remain on display during the celebration.
Celebration Committee Chairman Neil Selman of Kehillat Israel Synagogue
said, "We hope thousands of L.A. area young people and adults will join with
us as we commemorate The Wall to show the importance of having values in our
city and our society in these days of school shootings, bomb threats and
bullying. If we come together as communities to show we care about values and
ethics, we know we can have a positive impact on people's lives. The
Celebration of Values is a non-religious event intended to highlight the need
for value-based thinking and fostering common values throughout our community.
"We believe this is the first time anywhere in the United States that so
many interfaith organizations have joined together for an entire week devoted
specifically to activities that support our shared values," Selman added.
"The 'Our Shared Values Celebration' will emphasize values that form the core
of our common beliefs, such as courage, good works, integrity, kindness, love,
passion, and respect. During the week, we will be placing almost 3,000 signs
featuring these 'value words' in store windows and residential areas to raise
awareness, interest and promote a community-wide discussion of values for our
community and the youth of our city," Selman said.
The Pacific Palisades Community of Faith member churches and synagogues
include: 37th Church of Christ, Scientist; Calvary Church; Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter Day Saints; Corpus Christi Parish; Kehillat Israel
Reconstructionist Congregation; Community United Methodist Church; Palisades
Lutheran Church; Pacific Palisades Presbyterian Church, Self Realization
Fellowship; Lake Shrine; and The Parish of St. Matthew.
The Celebration of Our Shared Values is open to people of all faiths
throughout the County of Los Angeles. For more information on scheduled
