    CUPERTINO, Calif., April 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Al Shugart International
 (ASI), a resource center focused on helping entrepreneurs transform great
 ideas into great companies, announced today that its venture arm, Shugart
 Venture Fund 2, is acting as co-lead investor in the recently completed Series
 A round of funding for Uprizer, Inc. Uprizer, which provides decentralized,
 distributed networking technology for Internet and enterprise customers, has
 also received investments from Intel Capital and Kline Hawkes & Co.
 Jon van Bronkhorst, executive vice president of ASI and general manager of the
 Shugart Venture Funds, will serve as a member of the company's board of
 directors.
     Uprizer was co-founded in June 2000 by Freenet creator Ian Clarke,
 Internet and entertainment veteran Steven Starr and new media technology
 entrepreneur Rob Kramer. It is the first company to develop proprietary
 technology based on Clarke's Freenet architecture, an internationally
 renowned, decentralized, peer-to-peer networking platform. This technology is
 expected to incorporate the added benefits of network efficiency and
 reliability, as well as significantly reducing the total cost of network
 ownership.
