Southern California Edison Defers Dividends

    ROSEMEAD, Calif., April 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Edison International's
 (NYSE:   EIX) electric utility subsidiary Southern California Edison Company
 announced that its board of directors decided today to defer the quarterly
 dividends on SCE's 4.08%, 4.24%, and 4.78% series of cumulative preferred
 stock that would have been payable on May 31, 2001.
     The board also decided to continue the previous deferral of quarterly
 dividends on its preferred stock payable on and after February 28, 2001.
 
     An Edison International company, Southern California Edison is one of
 the nation's largest electric utilities, serving a population of more than
 11 million via 4.3 million customer accounts in a 50,000-square-mile service
 area within central, coastal and Southern California.
