    WASHINGTON, April 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Twenty-six rape crisis centers in
 southern California were recognized yesterday by RAINN, the national rape
 hotline, for outstanding services to victims of rape.  Approximately
 200 advocates, forensic nurses, rape survivors and other leaders in the
 anti-sexual assault community attended the awards dinner and reception at the
 Bicycle Casino in Bell Gardens, sponsored by the L.A. Area Casinos and
 ADT Security Services, Inc.  The awards were presented by Mark A. Kelegian of
 Kelegian & Associates, the Chairman of RAINN's National Legal Advisory Board.
     "The rape crisis programs we are honoring today are among the best in the

 month, RAINN's partner rape crisis centers work 24 hours a day to help victims
 of sexual assault.  As we begin Sexual Assault Awareness Month there is no

     Among the honored guests and speakers were Los Angeles county Deputy
 District Attorney Peter Berman, who heads the office's Sex Crimes Division;
 Kay Buck, Rape Prevention Resource Center Director at the California Coalition
 Against Sexual Assault; Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Judith Chirlin; and
 Marybeth Roden, assistant director of the Rape Treatment Center of Santa
 Monica-UCLA Medical Center.
 
     RAINN, the country's largest anti-rape organization, runs the national
 sexual assault hotline.  The hotline is a partnership of 871 rape crisis
 centers across the country.  The RAINN hotline number -- 800.656.HOPE -- has
 aired on all of the national broadcast television networks, dozens of cable
 networks and more than 1,100 radio stations.  The hotline offers free,
 confidential counseling and support 24 hours a day, from anywhere in the
 country.  More than 405,000 sexual assault victims have received counseling
 services through RAINN's hotline.  RAINN is funded entirely by private sector
 contributions.
 
     L.A. Casinos consortium is comprised of six major casinos in the
 Los Angeles area.  The casinos have joined together to promote the
 availability of gambling right in the city.  The existence of gambling in
