Speizman Industries Begins Shipping New Generation Closed Toe Machines

Apr 10, 2001, 01:00 ET from Speizman Industries, Inc.

    CHARLOTTE, N.C., April 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Speizman Industries, Inc.
(Nasdaq: SPZNC) announced today that it has begun shipping its new generation
 closed toe machines.
The labor-saving closed toe machine was redesigned by The Lonati Group of
Brescia, Italy and delivered to Speizman's Showroom in January 2001. The
Company has set up the machines in its working showroom for application of
customers' styles on the newer technology. Initial runs of the new closed toe
machine have been very successful with faster production times than the
previous generation. The advantages of a closed toe machine are primarily the
cost savings and efficiency yielded to a sock manufacturer by eliminating the
steps associated with sewing the toe on the sock. Shipments to Speizman's
customers of these new generation closed toe machines began in mid-March 2001.
The Company anticipates shipping approximately 80 to 120 new generation closed
toe machines per month during its last fiscal quarter ending June 30, 2001.
The Company has an order backlog for approximately 500 closed toe machines.
Robert S. Speizman, Chief Executive Officer, commented, "We are pleased
with the performance of the new generation closed toe machine. Additionally,
with Lonati's commitment and Speizman's dominant market presence, we believe
we are strategically positioned to supply the new generation closed toe
machines over the next couple of years to the U.S. and Canadian sock
 industry."
Speizman Industries is a leader in the sale and distribution of
specialized industrial machinery, parts and equipment. The Company acts as
exclusive distributor in the United States, Canada, and Mexico for leading
Italian manufacturers of textile equipment and is a leading distributor in the
United States of industrial laundry equipment representing several United
 States manufacturers.
