Springs Announces Management Changes

     Springs Industries, Inc. (NYSE:   SMI) announced today that Jeffrey A.
 Atkins, executive vice president and chief financial officer, will resign from
 the company in early summer.  Stephen P. Kelbley, executive vice president and
 president of the Home Furnishings Operating Group, will retire from the
 company by year-end.
     Mr. Atkins joined Springs in July 1999, after serving as chief executive
 officer and chief financial officer for Pete's Brewing Company, and prior to
 that held key executive leadership positions with Quaker Oats.
     "In light of the recapitalization agreement to take the company private,
 Jeff has decided to resign and pursue other opportunities more consistent with
 his career goals and the timing of his future plans," said Crandall C. Bowles,
 Springs chairman and chief executive officer.  "Jeff has had a significant
 impact on our company since joining in 1999, and we will miss his leadership,
 professionalism and business expertise."
    Mr. Kelbley joined Springs in 1991 after holding executive level roles at
 General Electric Company and Bausch & Lomb.  He began his career with Springs
 as chief financial officer, then led the Diversified Products and Specialty
 Fabrics groups before being named to his current position.

 made significant operating improvements in our core bed and bath operations,"
