"The Democratic Party is pleased that the Senate passed the McCain-
Feingold bill today. This bill will no doubt strengthen our democracy and
fundamentally improve the way our campaigns are financed. By eliminating the
influence of large donations, the parties must compete on the battleground of
ideas and issues that affect all working Americans -- terrain that strongly
 favors Democrats.
"With the greater transparency the bill mandates and with the elimination
of massive soft money contributions, McCain-Feingold will go a long way
towards reducing the cynicism with which too many of the American people have
come to view politics and politicians.
"Even with all the changes that McCain-Feingold will bring, the DNC will
continue fighting to ensure Democratic victories in every city, county and
 state from coast to coast."
