Statement From Harold E. Riley, Regarding Baylor University

An Open Letter to: Baylor Alumni & Friends

Sep 12, 2003, 01:00 ET from Harold E. Riley

AUSTIN, Texas, Sept. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- This letter will appear as an
advertisement on Saturday, September 13, 2003 in the following newspaper
publications: Austin American-Statesman, The Dallas Morning News, Ft. Worth
Star-Telegram, Houston Chronicle, San Antonio Express-News and Waco Tribune-
 Herald.

     PRESIDENT SLOAN URGED TO CONTINUE

In the late sixties, Tom Parrish, a former Baylor University Vice
President for Development, told me the million dollar naming gift I had
secured for building the Moody Memorial Library was the first million dollar
 contribution Baylor had received.
Since that time, I have given millions of dollars to Baylor; and,
presently, have an outstanding commitment to give an additional $15 million.
Why am I publicly sharing this information? For one reason. I want all
Baylor alumni to know I believe in and support: Baylor 2012, President Robert
Sloan, Chairman Drayton McLane, and the Baylor Board of Regents. They have
absolutely created and presented to us the best business plan in the 158-year
history of the University. Baylor, under their dynamic leadership, is
becoming everything its founders dreamed and envisioned at Washington on the
 Brazos in 1845.
I am pleased with and very excited about Baylor's future under Dr. Sloan's
leadership. However, you may be certain, should President Sloan resign, or
the Regents determine he is not Baylor's "Man of the Hour," my pledge to give
Baylor millions now, and tens of millions through a Foundation, would be
 immediately withdrawn.
I encourage every Baylorite to join me in supporting Baylor University,
its 2012 Vision, its Regents, Dr. Sloan, and their inspired plan for Baylor to
 become a top tier university.

     Sincerely,

     Harold E. Riley

P.S. Guy Morris and his staff will build a winning football team. He
reminds me of the 47-49 Bob Woodruff and Frank Broyles era. He is a winner!!
