Stelax Industries, Ltd. Announces Two Technological Innovations for NUOVINOX

Nuovinox 520 Hi-Strength Has 24% Higher Yield Strength Than Standard

420MPa Grade

Patented New End-Sealing System Is 100% Effective and Guarantees Against

Corrosion

Apr 18, 2001, 01:00 ET from Stelax Industries, Ltd.

DALLAS, April 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Stelax Industries, Ltd.
(OTC Bulletin Board: STAX; Nouveau Marche) announces two technological
advancements for their proprietary and patented product NUOVINOX.
NUOVINOX is carbon steel that is cladded with stainless steel and is
priced substantially lower than solid stainless steel. Stelax Industries,
Ltd. makes NUOVINOX rebar, dowels and flat bar.
The Company announces it has developed NUOVINOX 520 Hi-Strength, which has
23.8% higher "yield strength" (maximum stress that can be applied without
permanent deformation) than the standard 420 MPa grade. NUOVINOX 520 conforms
to ASTM A615's highest strength specifications for carbon steel rebar.
Harmon Hardy, Chairman and CEO of Stelax Industries, Ltd., said, "NUOVINOX
520 Hi-Strength provides 23.8% higher yield strength which will allow bridge
designers to use nearly 25% less rebar when designing bridge decks, piers and
other structures. With NUOVINOX 520, engineers and designers can now achieve
their 75-100 year bridge life objectives at even lower costs."
Mr. Hardy continued, "We are pleased to announce we already have our first
contract for 282 tons of NUOVINOX 520 Hi-Strength for the State of Connecticut
Department of Transportation. The NUOVINOX 520 rebar will be used as a non-
corrosive solution in the Church Street South Extension Bridge Deck located in
 New Haven, CT.
Nino Cacace, Managing Director of Stelax Industries, Ltd., said,
"Engineers no longer have to opt for more expensive stainless steels such as
duplexes, when requiring corrosion resistance with high yield strengths.
NUOVINOX 520 offers it all -- highest strength, highest corrosion resistance
 and low cost."
The Company also announces it has patented a new, end cap sealing system
for NUOVINOX. The system provided for a stainless steel end cap, pre-filled
with an elastomeric polyurethane sealant and tightly crimped onto the cut
ends. On construction sites, crimping machines are already an accepted rebar
connecting technique, which results in joints as strong as the original rebar.
Mr. Cacace said, "Exposed carbon steel ends of NUOVINOX no longer pose a
corrosion problem. Our new, patented system provides an inexpensive, all
stainless sealing system, which is unlike any other end-capping system. Our
elastomeric sealant and mechanical closing technique is 100% effective and
guarantees against corrosion of the carbon steel core, as well as crevice
corrosion between the cap and stainless cladding. The end-capping system can
be executed on the construction site and does not require skilled personnel
 for its application."
Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, Stelax Industries produces two separate
product lines through the Aberneath Facility: NUOVINOX(TM), a stainless steel
cladded product with a carbon steel core utilizing the Company's unique
patented manufacturing process and "Stelablast," steel abrasive shot pellets
which are used as an abrasive cleaner and polisher in steel manufacturing.
