Apr 05, 2001, 01:00 ET from Storage Technology Corporation

    LOUISVILLE, Colo., April 5 /PRNewswire/ -- StorageTek(R) (Storage
Technology Corp. (NYSE: STK)) tape drives and automated tape have been
selected for Fujitsu Siemens CentricStor(TM) virtual archiving system. The
announcement comes following the world's leading technology trade show, CeBIT,
held last month in Hanover, Germany.
With its "Business Critical Computing" strategic focus, Fujitsu Siemens
Computers is backing long-term partnerships and the integration of market-
leading partner products into its single-source storage solutions. This will
guarantee the customer a high degree of security, efficiency and innovation,
plus cost-optimized operation. The CentricStor virtual tape library system
developed by Fujitsu Siemens Computers is the key to consolidation and
innovation in the area of data backup and archiving.
Version 2 of CentricStor features attractive functions such as the
automatic creation of media copies, either locally or in a remote library, for
example at a secure location. A particular highlight is the integration of
the tape library systems produced by leading storage specialist StorageTek.
Starting with the high performance PowderHorn(R), integration embraces all
products up to and including the new L180 and L700 Tape Libraries, and
supports the 9840 and T9940 high-performance Tape Drives. This represents a
further milestone in realizing the open "Virtual Tape Appliance" strategy
 focused on CentricStor.
The direct benefits to BS2000/OSD (enterprise class) customers are evident
to Michel Vath, vice president and general manager of StorageTek
Europe/Africa/Middle East: "The combination of CentricStor and StorageTek's
tape automation technology offers the BS2000 customers an excellent
opportunity of raising the functionality and performance of their archiving
solutions to new heights. This alliance demonstrates our commitment to
 cooperation with Fujitsu Siemens Computers."
The head of Fujitsu Siemens Computers' Storage division, Dr. Helmut Beck,
emphasizes the significance of this strategy: "Connectivity and security are
key demands made of storage systems for today's business-critical
applications. CentricStor's new functions, in particular the integration of
StorageTek's automation, represent a considerable advance here. In the tape
field, CentricStor will thus be the next logical step for many companies
 moving towards virtual storage."
Improvements in investment protection, innovation, and control of the
total cost of ownership are guaranteed, and all BS2000 customers will derive
full benefit from this from day one.
