Summit 6 Announces Federal Lawsuit Over Digital Uploading Patents

DALLAS, Feb. 23, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Dallas-based technology provider Summit 6 LLC is announcing a patent infringement lawsuit filed today in Texas federal court to protect and enforce the company's intellectual property rights related to two U.S. patents that cover technology used to quickly resize, compress and transmit digital photographs and other media.

The lawsuit is filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas against Research in Motion, Samsung, Multiply, Facebook and Photobucket. The case is Summit 6 LLC v Research in Motion Corp., et al., No. 3:11-CV-367.

Employees from Summit 6 developed the technology covered in U.S. Patent Nos. 6,895,557 and 7,765,482 during the late 1990s. These patents cover software and methods for pre-processing media, such as digital photographs, before transmission to a remote location.

Summit 6's patents deliver increased ease-of-use and significantly faster upload times compared to prior technologies. The patents are also credited for reducing network traffic as well as the need for extensive digital storage and reprocessing by remote servers.
