LAS VEGAS, NAB Conference, April 23 /PRNewswire Interactive News Release/
-- Sun Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq: SUNW) announced today that the world's
premier system for TV weather graphics used by television broadcast stations,
convergence media operators and service providers is now available on Sun(TM)
 platforms.
Effective immediately, customers using WeatherOne's Metacast(R) Ultra
weather system can now run the advanced application on Sun hardware, which is
designed to provide greater scalability, reliability and performance, yet
features much lower prices than other hardware vendors in the market today.
Additionally, complete weather broadcast products and services by WeatherOne,
a wholly owned subsidiary of Metaphor, are also now available on Sun systems.
"Sun will continue to show growing leadership in the digital media
industry through powerful, innovative new products and market leading
partnerships, such as with Metaphor," said Robbie Turner, Vice President,
Client and Technical Market Products, Sun Microsystems. "Our technological
vision for the future in this market will lead to next generation services for
broadcast, web simulcasts and Internet-enabled wireless devices."
WeatherOne is the seller of Metacast Ultra, an award-winning, fully
integrated weather graphics presentation system, which is currently used by
more than 100 TV stations in the United States, Europe, South America, and
Africa. Meteorologists use the software to analyze the weather in real-time
and present the forecast using powerful graphics. Metacast Ultra has advanced
2D time animation, pattern-free symbol animation, advanced 3D terrain modeling
and FlyThrus, and imported 3D objects. The software enables 2D graphics to be
transformed into smooth, fast-moving 3D animation in seconds, and content
creators can produce an entire show in a matter of minutes.
"When it comes to producing a TV weather forecast, great graphics make all
the difference," said Dr. Arne Tysso, managing director of WeatherOne. "We're
excited about offering our product on Sun Microsystems' highly scalable
Solaris Operating Environment because it means our customers can achieve
high-quality, reliable weather graphics on an affordable platform. It's
important to WeatherOne to partner with leading technology manufacturers that
can meet our customers' needs today and in the future."
"With weather being one of the most viable content categories on both the
Internet and in traditional broadcast media, together Metaphor and Sun will
offer cost-effective, reliable solutions for this important market," added
Samuel Turcotte, Senior Segment Manager for Digital Media at Sun Microsystems.

     PRICING AND AVAILABILITY
The price of the complete hardware and software system is based upon size
and type of market, size of broadcast footprint and number of viewers. With
the addition of support on Sun technology, however, customers should now have
lower-cost options for their hardware solutions, including Sun workstations,
 servers and storage systems.
Complete packages, including Sun hardware and WeatherOne's Metacast Ultra
real-time weather graphics and production system, are available worldwide
through WeatherOne and its distributor network, including AccuWeather. For
