"The scalability and performance enhancements built into Tarantella
Enterprise 3 allow customers to support up to four times as many concurrent
users as Tarantella Enterprise II," said Mike Orr, president of Tarantella,
Inc. "Response times are also significantly improved, especially for users on
low bandwidth connections. In addition, we've added many usability features,
so that all of our customers' applications can be web-enabled even faster and
 easier than before."

Users and Analysts Applaud Tarantella Enterprise 3
"Tarantella Enterprise 3 offers the right architecture, and makes it even
easier to support very large communities of users," said Masatsugu Shinozaki,
general manager, Server Development Operation, Internet Systems Platform
Division, Hitachi, Ltd. "The higher levels of scalability, and ease of use of
the new management tools provide the additional functionality required to
manage application access for large numbers of users. With these added
features, Tarantella Enterprise 3 is a far more powerful web-enabling solution
than anything else on the market today."
"Thin client desktop deployments have typically been departmental rather
than enterprise wide," said Peter Lowber, research director of Gartner Group.
"The enhancements in Tarantella Enterprise 3 give it enterprise-wide
capability, and IT organizations with large deployments should consider
 Tarantella."
"Tarantella Enterprise 3 software is designed in a more robust, scalable,
and easy-to-manage fashion than other web-enabling solutions," said
independent consultant, Richard Ross. "The three-tier architecture is central
to this design, and my initial testing shows significant performance
enhancements over previous versions of the product. The superior design
technology and higher performance levels make Tarantella Enterprise 3 a
better-suited product for large-scale application deployments."

Key New Features in Tarantella Enterprise 3
Tarantella Enterprise 3 software is designed to support up to 1,000 users
per server, and up to 50 servers can be combined into a single array to
intelligently balance the server load across geographically dispersed
networks, improving scalability and application performance. New session load
balancing techniques further enhance scalability and availability for
enterprise deployment. This release provides the ability to run on Linux
servers, introduces an integrated AS/400 connectivity pack, and delivers
enhanced connectivity for Apple Macintosh clients, extending the range of
 servers, clients and applications supported.
New support for LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol), provides
higher levels of integration with large-scale Internet infrastructures, and
uses XML (eXtensible Markup Language) to integrate reporting and status
information with external management systems. The new management tools form
an easy-to-use, search-based administration framework. The Object Manager
lets administrators manage resources, control deployment to large numbers of
users, monitor usage, and shadow user sessions for remote troubleshooting.
The Array Manager presents a single interface to easily set up and maintain an
 array of Tarantella servers.

     Tarantella Enterprise 3 ASP Edition
The ASP Edition includes all of the features of Tarantella Enterprise 3,
and is available within a Starter Pack, including a flexible purchase or
rental plan, training, enhanced support, and startup services designed to meet
the needs of Application Service Providers (ASPs.) Enhancements to usage and
logging information allow sophisticated integration with customer account
systems, simplifying the requirement for ASPs to accurately charge large
 communities of subscribers.

     Availability
Tarantella Enterprise 3 and Tarantella Enterprise 3 ASP Edition begin
shipping on October 30, and are being previewed this week at Networld+Interop,
booth #5763, in Atlanta. Tarantella Enterprise 3 is available for all major
UNIX platforms, including Compaq Tru64 UNIX, HP-UX, IBM AIX, SCO OpenServer
Release 5, UnixWare 7, and Sun SPARC Solaris, plus popular Linux platforms,
