Tarantella Joins Forces With IBM in Marketing Efforts

IBM to Provide Education on Tarantella to ISVs at ASP Prime Centers

Mar 27, 2001, 00:00 ET from Tarantella, Inc.

SANTA CRUZ, Calif., March 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Tarantella, Inc., a
wholly-owned subsidiary of The Santa Cruz Operation, Inc. (Nasdaq: SCOC),
today announced that it has entered into a joint marketing agreement with IBM
to help ISVs participating in IBM's ASP Prime Program learn how to leverage
 Tarantella solutions.
The joint marketing agreement will roll out in several stages, beginning
with an initiative through IBM's ASP Prime Centers. IBM will provide
education about Tarantella web-enabling solutions to selected ISVs
participating in ASP Prime, who need to integrate heterogeneous platforms,
such as legacy mainframe, with Java and Linux client-server applications.
Because it delivers any application from any platform -- including IBM's
complete line of eServers -- Tarantella Enterprise 3 software can play a key
role in bringing applications to users quickly, securely and without any
 application rewrites.
Dennis Adams, vice president of marketing for Tarantella, Inc., believes
IBM and Tarantella share a common view of this ISV to ASP market. "ASP uptake
will surge with the delivery of end-to-end solutions that blend application
subscriptions and in-house systems," he said. "Our relationship with IBM will
 help accelerate this growth."
ASP Prime is IBM's flagship program that helps ISVs prepare their
applications for the web and gives software developers access to technical
consulting. ASP Prime also provides a wide array of software, hardware, and
tools that help ISVs ready their web applications for hosted environments.
"The speed at which applications can be migrated to a hosted, web-based
subscription environment is key to enabling ISVs to take advantage of the ASP
business model," said Jill Kanatzar, Manager, ASP Prime, IBM Global Net
Generation Business. "The agreement with Tarantella will help ASP Prime
connect with ISVs who face the challenge of integrating heterogeneous
platforms with additional resources. This initiative will help ISVs get to
 market quickly with customer-ready solutions."
Tarantella Enterprise 3 software works in an independent middle tier and
requires no modifications to established applications or their host platforms.
This API-free, non-intrusive approach permits near immediate web-enablement
 and rapid time to market.
