Target Corporation March Sales Up 8.4 Percent

    MINNEAPOLIS, April 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Target Corporation (NYSE:   TGT) today
 reported that its net retail sales for the five weeks ended April 7, 2001
 increased 8.4 percent to $3.205 billion from $2.956 billion for the five-week
 period ended April 1, 2000.  Comparable-store sales increased 2.4 percent from
 March 2000.
     "Sales for the Corporation were slightly below plan for the month of
 March," said Bob Ulrich, chairman and chief executive officer of Target
 Corporation.  "While April represents an important month for overall results
 in the first quarter, we continue to expect our earnings per share to increase
 slightly-to-modestly, consistent with our prior guidance."
