Telco Systems Launches Powerful and Innovative Cross-Platform Element Management System

EdgeView EMS Provides Scalable Network Management Across Multiple Platforms

Apr 11, 2001, 01:00 ET from Telco Systems

NORWOOD, Mass., April 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Telco Systems, a BATM Company and
a leader in network edge technology and IP switching platforms, today
announced the new EdgeView Element Management System (EMS). The EdgeView EMS
is a cross-platform Element Management System that offers web based management
for Telco Systems EdgeLink Family of products through a simple and intuitive
GUI interface with complete access to maps, events, alerts, network database,
reports, MIB browsing and administration. EdgeView EMS is designed to operate
as a stand-alone manager, but is fully compatible with existing Network
Management Systems (NMS) and Operational Support Systems (OSS) via CORBA, XML,
RMI, and SQL/ ODBC/JDBC based interfaces. Server software runs on Windows NT
4.0, while the Browser may be run on Netscape 4.7 or Internet Explorer 5.0,
and above, using Windows 95, 98, 2000, or NT.
     (Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20000511/TELCOLOGO )
Future EMS platform support will include Sun Solaris and Linux.
Some principle benefits of EdgeView EMS include auto discovery and display
of network elements, the ability to selectively filter the view on all
devices, or on EdgeLink elements only, and it can significantly reduce the
time and costs associated with provisioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
Once the network elements are all discovered, they could be linked and stored
in a network map for display. The frequency of performance metric (PM)
reports is user defined on an hourly, daily or weekly basis, and may be
presented as pure values or shown in graphic form.
"Bundled services, created by merging data and voice in the local loop,
are a boon to service providers in achieving operational efficiency, however,
these bundled services require an integrated view of the network," said Dave
LeBeau, president, Telco Systems. "To achieve rapid growth, reduce costs and
increase customer loyalty, carriers must maintain operational staffing
efficiencies while minimizing the impact of any new management and
installation requirements for integrated networks. The intuitive approach
used to design the EdgeView EMS' human interface is specifically oriented
towards reducing the cost and complexity of deploying and maintaining these
 new service models."
Additional features of the EdgeView EMS architecture include allowances
for the addition of future features such as flow-through provisioning, dynamic
bandwidth allocation, service level agreement (SLA), Quality of Service (QoS)
and policies that enable SLA and QoS monitoring.
