Teradata Launches New Offer to Migrate Oracle Data Warehouse Users

New Service Allows Companies to Enjoy Best of Both Worlds in Decision

Support and OLTP

Apr 30, 2001, 01:00 ET from NCR Corporation

ORLANDO, Fla., April 30 /PRNewswire/ -- At the International Oracle Users
Group meeting today, Teradata, a division of NCR Corporation (NYSE: NCR),
launched a new data warehousing offer for Oracle users, Teradata Data
 Warehousing for Oracle Environments.
The new offer is designed to help companies easily and cost-effectively
add data warehousing to their Oracle operational environments or migrate their
data warehouses or data marts from Oracle to Teradata. The offer also
includes a specialized Teradata training curriculum for Oracle professionals.
Teradata Data Warehousing for Oracle Environments allows companies to reap
the benefits of Teradata, including the ability to keep detailed data in a
centralized system with access by hundreds or thousands of users, while
sourcing transaction data from their Oracle online transaction processing
(OLTP) systems. And companies that use this service for data mart
consolidation can see significant cost savings, as much as a three times cost
reduction, as they switch to a centralized data warehouse.
The new offer from Teradata is based on the organization's experience in
migrating Oracle customers and working with other industry-leading companies,
some who have grown their data warehouse systems from gigabytes to terabytes.
Teradata customers, many of whom have won awards for their decision support
and CRM implementations, have been able to use their data warehouses to drive
business growth while empowering their employees and suppliers with access to
 detailed company data.
"Companies that are serious about using their data warehouses to drive
business performance are turning to Teradata to help them realize the value
that other data warehouse solutions promise but don't always deliver," said
Vickie Farrell, vice president of marketing for Teradata. "Many of these
organizations have tried to build their data warehouses with the same Oracle
database that served them well for OLTP. Now they are seeing the limitations
of that strategy and are looking for a database than can help them meet the
rigorous business demands placed on their data warehouses."
The Teradata Data Warehousing for Oracle Environments offer consists of
software, including the recently announced Teradata Warehouse 6.1 and extract,
transform and load tools, hardware and professional services. Companies
migrating from an Oracle data warehouse to Teradata can take advantage of the
Oracle to Teradata Migration Service, which includes proof of concept services
 in addition to migration implementation.
