SANTA CLARA, Calif., April 23 /PRNewswire Interactive News Release/ --
Further expanding its family of digital video solutions, Terayon Communication
Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: TERN), a leading worldwide supplier of carrier-class
voice, data and video broadband networking solutions, today announced its new
DTE-7585 Integrated Receiver (IR) for cable television operators. The first
of its kind in the marketplace, the DTE-7585 is the only off-air High-
Definition TV (HDTV) receiver enabling cable operators to receive off-air
broadcasts, from local broadcasters and their affiliates, and convert it into
a usable format, allowing off-air programming as part of the operators' cable
offering. Concurrently, broadcasters will benefit as their HDTV programming
 is included with cable.
The DTE-7585 complements Terayon's leading CherryPicker(TM) digital video
management system which already has the ability to receive off-air HDTV
broadcasts and groom them, expanding the operators' ability to receive and
process HDTV through existing Terayon equipment.
"We strive to provide innovative digital video solutions," said Stephen
King, senior vice president and general manager for Terayon's digital video
systems. "Terayon's new DTE-7585 is an exclusive offering created for the
advancement of the digital video industry supporting broadcasters, and the
cable operators' goal of broadening their offering."
This is the second unit in a series of new products launched from
Terayon's digital video product line following its September 2000 acquisition
of Digitrans, the developer of Terayon's first IRD offering -- the DTE-7220.
Terayon projects first sales orders for the DTE-7585 in late Q2 2001.
DTE-7585 is designed as a dual unit receiver with dual independent ASI
outputs. The IRD will be used to receive two local HDTV broadcast signals,
demodulate, and then convert the signals into an MPEG-2 transport stream into
an ASI output for feeding into a local headend's modulator or local
multiplexor for further processing. Additional key features of Terayon's
 DTE-7585 include:

-- 8VSB (8-level vestigial side band) HDTV off-air receiver used to
receive two local HDTV (DTV) broadcast signals in the standard 50
        860 MHz band
-- Demodulates 8VSB signal and converts the MPEG-2 transport stream
an ASI output, which typically feeds into a local head end's 64/256QAM
modulator or a local multiplexor for further processing
-- A slim 1.75 inch chassis, enabling operators to maximize the available
        space in their equipment racks
