Texas Power Companies Select Altra for ERCOT Scheduling

Power Companies Must Report Inter-State Power Transactions to ERCOT In

Deregulated Environment

Apr 11, 2001, 01:00 ET from Altra Energy Technologies, Inc.

HOUSTON, April 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Altra Energy Technologies, Inc.
announced today that South Texas Electric Cooperative (STEC) and Xcel Energy,
Inc. have selected Altra Power 4.2, the latest release of Altra's power
transaction management system, for bidding, scheduling and settlement in the
newly deregulated Texas marketplace. Altra, along with its subsidiaries, is
the leading provider of innovative electronic trading services and transaction
management software to the energy industry.
"There are a number of operating and competitive changes taking place as
Texas deregulates its electricity industry, and Altra is positioned to help
power companies thrive in what everybody involved believes will be a more
competitive environment," said Altra President and CEO Paul Bourke. "The fact
that these leading power companies have chosen Altra Power for the management
of their ERCOT ISO business is a significant testament to the functionality,
reliability and flexibility of our system."
As directed by the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT), any power
wholesaler that imports into or exports out of Texas is required to report its
load to the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT). Altra's software
allows these power companies to communicate, interface and produce statements
automatically to ERCOT. Altra Power customers in Texas can use the software
for their Qualified Scheduling Entity (QSE) business within the ERCOT ISO, in
 addition to their traditional business.
"Altra has allocated the resources necessary to keep abreast of the ever-
changing market requirements in ERCOT and provides us with the tools that we
need to actively participate in the ERCOT market as a QSE," said Darrell
Klimitchek, STEC's manager of technical services. "In addition, Altra Power's
'plug-and-play' feature with other systems eliminated a potential problem
point when it came to interfacing between the Altra scheduling software and
 our energy management system."
Altra Power is the most advanced energy transaction delivery management
system used for the transmission, scheduling and recording of electricity for
providers, schedulers, suppliers and other key players in the interconnected
electricity grid. In an increasingly deregulated environment, Altra Power
offers retail access for scheduling direct access load, NERC tagging, contract
setup, pre- and real-time scheduling, invoice generation, billing and budget
forecasting, and access contracts and inter-utility reports for energy
operators who must compile, analyze and manage high volumes of transactions.
In addition, due to its open architecture, Altra Power can be easily
integrated with other mission critical applications including Electronic
Digital exchanges and third-party financial products.
