The Barilla Group Selects Computer Associates Endevor for OS/390 as Perfect Recipe for Software Management

Apr 02, 2001, 01:00 ET from Computer Associates International, Inc.

ISLANDIA, N.Y. and BASIGLIO, Italy, April 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Computer
Associates International, Inc. (NYSE: CA) (CA) today announced that the
Barilla Group, one of the largest food manufacturers in Italy, has chosen CA's
Endevor for OS/390 to manage the software development process that supports
 its long-term strategic growth objectives.
"Endevor for OS/390 will help the Barilla Group manage our entire
corporate development process and will reduce errors in production," said
Roberto Faraguti, the Barilla Group's chief technology officer in the
management systems department. "We anticipate increased productivity and
efficiency because of Endevor's ability to impose discipline and structure on
our extensive and diverse application development process."
Recent significant changes in the Barilla Group's information requirements
necessitated major application changes, and the company opted for a more
 standardized approach to software development.
Endevor for OS/390 automates software development and management tasks
associated with the mainframe development environment. It provides support
for version and change control, security, release management, parallel
development and comprehensive report and auditing.
The Barilla Group's application servers, which vary by technology and
function, are accessible by client machines throughout the company's computer
network. Through this network -- which includes integration with several
external data sources -- any server can be accessed transparently from any PC.
Most of Barilla's software was written internally to solve specific business
problems and to perform integration between applications, and each server
platform presented a different environment for production and development.
"Both our technological infrastructure and our application solutions
result from the strong relationship between corporate management and
information systems," said Faraguti. "By automating the time consuming and
tedious tasks involved in managing the life cycle of our applications, Endevor
for OS/390 will help support our long-term strategic growth objectives."
Endevor OS/390 is a key component of the ADvantage family of products,
which work together to provide a strong foundation for building, deploying and
 managing eBusiness applications.
"We are delighted that the Barilla Group has selected Endevor for
OS/390 to manage its software development and maintenance," said Alfonso
Nobilio, divisional vice president at CA's office in Milan, Italy. "Endevor
for OS/390 will help the Barilla Group meet its technology needs and adapt
swiftly to a significant shift in development priorities."
