    SANTA ANA, Calif., April 4 /PRNewswire/ -- The First American
 Corporation (NYSE:   FAF), the nation's leading, diversified provider of
 business information and related products and services, today announced that
 Max O. Valdes has been appointed to the newly created position of vice
 president-chief accounting officer.
     In his new role, Valdes will oversee the company's SEC and statutory
 financial reporting.  He also will retain his duties as chief financial
 officer of First American's largest subsidiary, First American Title Insurance
 Company.
     After joining First American Title in 1988, Valdes served as assistant
 controller, then vice president-controller before being promoted to vice
 president-chief financial officer in 1998.  A Certified Public Accountant, he
 is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the
 California Society of CPAs.  He also serves as a member of the board of
 directors of First American's subsidiary, Midland Title Security, Inc.
     Valdes received his bachelor's degree in business administration from
 California State University, Fullerton, with an accounting concentration.  A
 native of Havana, Cuba, Valdes currently resides in Murrieta, Calif., with his
 wife, Karla, and their two sons.
