PUTNAM VALLEY, N.Y., March 16, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Drs. James G. Schiller and Terry L. Kirchner, Putnam Valley, New York residents recently celebrated the wedding of the year on March 5 when Drs. James G. Schiller and Terry L. Kirchner, two community-minded doctorate level residents both active in the nonprofit sector, wed during a Catholic service. The Catholic Wedding ceremony and mass at the Highlands Country Club in Garrison, New York, was celebrated by Father Noel Clarke in the presence of the couple's loving sisters, family, friends and neighbors, including religious, clergy, judges, lawyers and many Putnam County residents.
"We are very excited to marry at such a lovely ceremony celebrated by those we care about most," says Dr. Kirchner. "We met 25 years ago on February 18 while traveling home from New York City to New Jersey after a long night with respective friends. A police action stopped the NY to NJ Path train we were riding for more than 25 minutes. A conversation and subsequent phone calls and dates followed. Our 25 year relationship has been very happy and marked by our mutual support, encouragement and inseparability."
Drs. Schiller and Kirchner are both civic-minded and have worked in the nonprofit sector in their respective careers. Most recently, they have founded and operate Practical Training Group, LLC, which provides tailored and practical training, counselling and coaching to individuals and groups, delivered by professionals and systems staff, with the guaranteed level of discretion required by corporate clients.
Currently, Dr. Kirchner serves as the executive director of the Westchester Library System located in Tarrytown, New York and has prior experience at Columbia University and The New York Public Library systems. Besides serving on the executive board of New Yorkers for Better Libraries, the vice president for Nonprofit Westchester, and the president of the Public Library Systems Directors of New York, he often provides after-hours pro bono career and executive coaching to peers and professionals in the community.
Dr. Schiller is the chief operating officer and deputy executive director at Argus Community, a Bronx nonprofit where for 23 years he developed, implemented and managed a variety of programs serving those challenged by chronic illness, HIV, substance abuse & poverty. His interest and love of community service early on, and at 16 years old, he received an Achievement Award for Excellence with regard to service to the community from Mario Biaggio, a then member of Congress. Later, he received the prestigious Dr. Nicholas Rango Case Management Award in 1997 from the AIDS Institute-NYS Department of Health (DOH). Schiller has served as the co-chair of the DOH AIDS Institute Statewide COBRA Case Management Technical Assistance Group, as a board member-at-large for the Partnership for the Homeless in NYC, and participated in early hospital-based HIV case management research. Interspersed with a host of other activities, honors & awards, he has provided pro bono coaching and changing lives ever since.
Dr. Schiller's draw to service came to fruition long before the need to earn a living. In his early years, he lived as a Franciscan friar in the Catholic tradition and this lead to his insistence on a Catholic ceremony and mass for their wedding.
