Apr 16, 2001, 01:00 ET from Thomas Weisel Partners, LLC

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., April 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Thomas Weisel Partners
LLC, a merchant bank exclusively focused on the next generation of growth
companies transforming the U.S. economy, announced today that Wall Street
research veteran, Mark Manson, has joined the firm as a partner and Director
of Research. Manson, who will be based in Thomas Weisel Partners' New York
office, also will assume management responsibility for the firm's East Coast
Operations together with partner, Bob Kitts.
Manson, who brings nearly 20 years of experience in the securities
industry, comes to Thomas Weisel Partners from Credit Suisse First Boston,
where he was Deputy Global Head of Equity Research. Prior to that position,
Manson was Global Head of Equity Research at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette.
"We are delighted to have Mark join the firm. His experience as an
analyst and manager at one of Wall Street's leading research franchises will
take Thomas Weisel Partners' research to a new level of excellence," said Thom
Weisel, Chairman and CEO of Thomas Weisel Partners. "Manson's addition to the
firm also is a powerful vote of confidence in the current strength and future
 potential of the TWP platform."
Commenting on his reasons for joining Thomas Weisel Partners, Manson said:
"The primary goal of research at TWP is to bring depth of insight and original
perspective to the investigation of dynamic American companies that are
transforming the global economy. The license to focus exclusively on that
mission with intellectual integrity is rare -- and should continue to attract
the very best analysts. Ultimately we hope to help our clients see the world a
little differently. The challenges and opportunities that come with that
mandate could not be more exciting."
One of Manson's initiatives as TWP's Director of Research will be to
extend the expansion of the firm's research effort begun at the end of 2000.
Since the beginning of this year, the firm has hired the following new
 analysts:  Steve Halper, (formerly DLJ Research) -- Healthcare Services;
Hasan Imam, Ph.D, (formerly DLJ Research) -- Wireline Equipment; Matthew Park,
(formerly DLJ Research) -- Financial Services Lynn Pieper, (formerly
Adams, Harkness Research) -- Medical Devices. The firm anticipates continued
 hiring in research.
