Thomas Weisel Partners Announces Three New Partners

    SAN FRANCISCO, April 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Thomas Weisel Partners LLC, a
 merchant bank exclusively focused on the next generation of growth companies
 transforming the U.S. economy, announced today that Rick Beatty, Greg White
 and Keith Oster have joined Thomas Weisel Partners as partners of the firm.
     Beatty, who comes to TWP from Bear Stearns, is a partner in the
 Corporate Finance group and head of its Telecom and Media team; White, who is
 a partner in the Private Equity and Asset Management group, comes from
 TA Associates, and will eventually be based in San Francisco; and Oster, who
 joins as a partner in Private Equity from J.F. Lehman, also is based in
 San Francisco.
 
     Biography on Rick Beatty
     Beatty has been an investment banker involved with developing and
 financing media communications and technology companies for 20 years at
 Communications Capital Partners LLC, Bear Stearns and Salomon Brothers.  Among
 the transactions Beatty has been involved with include:  the bellwether
 telecom project financing in the high yield debt market for PanAmSat; the
 first $2 billion in public financing for MFS, the pioneer CLEC; the first
 major acquisition of an independent telephone company by an electric utility,
 the acquisition of Lufkin-Conroe Communications Corp by Texas Utilities; and
 the first public financings for LCI International.  He has a BS from
 Swarthmore College and an MBA from Harvard.  Beatty will relocate to New York
 in June.
 
     Biography on Greg White
     White served as the Executive Director of the $8.5 billion Massachusetts
 Pension Reserves Investment Management Board, completing its merger with the
 $9.5 billion Massachusetts State Teachers and Employees Retirement Systems
 pension fund.  At TA Associates, White spearheaded its efforts to acquire a
 public securities asset management firm, ValueQuest/TA, an international and
 domestic equity management firm.  After completing the investment in the firm,
 White became the Chief Operating Officer.  He has a BA in nuclear engineering
 from Georgia Institute of Technology and an MBA from Harvard.

     Oster comes to Thomas Weisel Partners after previously working at
 J. F. Lehman & Company, a New York-based private equity firm at which he was
 responsible for negotiating and closing leveraged buyouts as well as serving
 as a director of four of the firm's portfolio companies.  Oster was also with
 The Carlyle Group and, prior to that, worked at Prudential Securities in the
 Mergers, Acquisitions & Leveraged Buyout Department.  He has a BA from
 Oberlin College and an MBA from the Wharton School of Business.
