TIBCO Software's Arvola Chan Leads RosettaNet Architecture Team in Universal Messaging Services Convergence Activities

Chan and RosettaNet ebXML Team Work to Achieve Interoperability

Across Industries

Apr 25, 2001, 01:00 ET from TIBCO Software Inc.

PALO ALTO, Calif., April 25 /PRNewswire/ -- TIBCO Software Inc.
(Nasdaq: TIBX) today announced that Dr. Arvola Chan, principal architect from
TIBCO Software(TM), is on loan to RosettaNet to lead its plan in support of
the universal messaging services specification of the ebXML initiative
(See today's related RosettaNet announcement: RosettaNet To Support Messaging
Services Specification Developed by the ebXML Initiative). A messaging
service standard typically specifies how information or an e-business
transaction is physically packaged, transferred, and routed securely via the
Internet. As an underlying communication protocol, a single messaging service
standard can be used universally, regardless of industry or geography, to
transport electronic information between trading partners.
"RosettaNet is committed to achieving interoperability across multiple
industries," said Jennifer Hamilton, CEO of RosettaNet. "Having Dr. Chan on
our team adds industry expertise that helps to make this possible at the
 messenger protocol level."
"The trillions of dollars worth of transactions that will take place on
the Internet over the next few years will be facilitated, in part, by accepted
computer language standards that make integration quick, cost-effective and
easy," said Fred Meyer, chief marketing officer, TIBCO Software. "Arvola
Chan's expertise will benefit RosettaNet, TIBCO and the industry as a whole."
"Arvola was a key contributor to the recently released RosettaNet's
Implementation Framework (RNIF) 2.0. His business and technical expertise are
a valuable attribute to our dynamic architecture team in charge of developing
a convergence strategy around universal messaging services," said Paul
Tearnen, vice president of standards management for RosettaNet.
Dr. Arvola Chan, a principal architect at TIBCO Software, joined TIBCO's
precursor, Teknekron Software Systems, in 1993. Since that time, Chan has
focused on the integration of database and distributed transaction technology
with TIBCO's innovative information bus technology. His current
specialization is on the interoperable implementation of e-commerce standards.
Chan received his B.S. and Ph.D. degrees from MIT EECS in 1974 and 1980,
respectively. Before joining TIBCO, Chan worked at Computer Corporation of
 America, Ashton-Tate and Versant.
