TNN Picks up Another Original Series: '15 And Counting,' A Pop Documentary Series by 'Behind The Music's' Gay Rosenthal

Apr 25, 2001, 01:00 ET from TNN

NEW YORK, April 25 /PRNewswire/ -- TNN, America's first pop network, has
greenlighted TNN'S 15 AND COUNTING, a series of pop documentaries exploring
some of the most memorable people and stories of our time, though they were
famous -- or infamous -- for just 15 minutes. Gay Rosenthal Productions, part
of the creative team behind VH1's Emmy-nominated series, "Behind The Music,"
will produce 13 episodes of TNN'S 15 AND COUNTING. The series will premiere
 on TNN later this year.
"TNN'S 15 AND COUNTING will define TNN's brand; it will be the network's
signature series," says Diane Robina, Executive Vice President and General
Manager, TNN. "Rarely, do you hear what happened to these people who had, as
Andy Warhol said, their 15 minutes of fame, and how all that media attention
affected their lives. Gay Rosenthal is a great storyteller, who will make TNN
viewers eyewitnesses to history as we look beyond the now faded headlines to
seek the heart and soul of the real people whose names have become fixtures in
 pop culture."
Each one-hour documentary will feature two separate stories, united by a
common theme. With style, wit and a determined probing sense of purpose,
TNN'S 15 AND COUNTING will chronicle the events leading up to the moment of
fame, revealing who the featured person really is, and then provide a
blow-by-blow account of the headline-making moments and finally a look at life
after the headlines have faded and only the memories remain. Each episode
will include newly produced interviews, as well as news clips, personal
photos, home movies and pop culture elements that evoke the period when the
featured person came to fame: movie trailers, late night television clips,
comedy routines and other examples of the media's fixation on the Big Story of
 the Moment.
"This program will be an intimate, revelatory look at people from all
walks of life, who had their 15 minutes of fame, and the events that made them
famous," says Gay Rosenthal, who recently completed the series' pilot
featuring Donato Dalrymple, the fisherman who rescued Elian Gonzalez at sea.
"With Donato Dalrymple, you can actually see him begin his 15 minutes of fame
as he steps off the dock and into the national spotlight. We'll probe beyond
the headlines for the real story that the media coverage never fully
 revealed."
TNN'S 15 AND COUNTING marks the sixth series TNN has picked up. Other
series scheduled to premiere on TNN this year are: TNN'S SMALL SHOTS, where
filmmakers cast local people in spoofs of theatrical films; TNN'S LIFEGAME,
featuring an improv group that acts out the events in the life of an audience
member; TNN'S POP ACROSS AMERICA, television's first traveling talk show
featuring all things pop and hosted by comedian Steve Marmel; TNN'S ROBOT
WARS, where homemade U.S. robots battle Britain's most popular ROBOT WARS
robots, and TNN'S ULTIMATE REVENGE, a series that helps people create the
ultimate revenge against someone near and dear.
Coast to coast, TNN is connecting Adults 18-49 to the tops in pop culture
such as the World Wrestling Federation's RAW IS WAR, cable's top-rated series.
And it's connecting viewers to network decision-makers 24 hours a day through
its toll-free number, 1-888-POP-1090. Under the banner of "We've Got Pop,"
TNN invites its viewers to call and talk about what's pop on television, on
movie screens and in their hometowns. Viewers' voices and faces show up on
the network, talking about whatever's on their minds. Since TNN started
1-888-POP-1090, more than 20,000 calls weekly have come in from all over the
country. TNN's program schedule will include 50% original programming by the
 year 2005.
