Tom Smith Joins Speedway Motorsports Board

    CONCORD, N.C., April 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Officials of Speedway Motorsports
 (NYSE:   TRK) today announced prominent North Carolina businessman Tom E. Smith
 has been elected to the company's Board of Directors.
     Before joining the motorsports entertainment company's board, Smith was
 CEO and chairman of Salisbury, N.C.-based Food Lion, Inc.  He retired from
 Food Lion in 1999 after a 29-year career with the company.  Smith successfully
 led Food Lion through its most formative stages, developing the company from
 317 supermarkets to more than 1,200 supermarkets and sales over $10 billion.
