Tripos, Inc. Announces Resignation of Colleen A. Martin, Chief Financial Officer, for Family Reasons

 Tripos, Inc. (Nasdaq: TRPS) today announced that Colleen A. Martin, Chief
 Financial Officer of Tripos, Inc., will leave the company for family reasons,
 effective immediately.
     Ms. Martin, Chief Financial Officer and Secretary of Tripos for the last
 6 years, joined the company in 1989 as Controller, and was promoted to Vice
 President and Chief Financial Officer in April 1995.
     Commenting on her unexpected departure, Martin said, "My decision to leave
 Tripos has been an extremely difficult one to make, but at this time, it is
 critical that I put the needs of my family first.  My departure is based
 completely on consideration of my family situation, and I hope that there will
 be no speculation otherwise."
     Martin added, "Tripos is very well positioned for future success and
 profitable growth.  I am extremely disappointed that I will not be a
 participant and share an active role in these successes."
