Two CSC Business Units Earn SEI Ratings

Apr 30, 2001, 01:00 ET from Computer Sciences Corporation

EL SEGUNDO, Calif., April 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Two Computer Sciences
Corporation (NYSE: CSC) business units supporting the aerospace and defense
industry have achieved the Software Engineering Institute's (SEI) Capability
Maturity Model (CMM) Level 3 rating. The units include the applications
outsourcing organization supporting Hughes Electronics, The Boeing Company and
Raytheon in Long Beach, Calif., and Tucson, Ariz., and the CSC office
supporting the Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DEFAS) organization in
Kansas City, Mo. The latter CSC group was recognized along with its U.S.
 government client.
The Capability Maturity Model for software describes the principles and
practices underlying software process maturity and is intended to help
organizations improve in this area. Level 3 status is awarded to
organizations that have defined and documented the software process for both
management and engineering activities. This accomplishment ranks the
integrated DEFAS team of government employees, U.S. Marines and CSC employees
in the top quarter of assessed software engineering organizations worldwide.
"It is rewarding that our applications outsourcing unit moved from Level 2
to Level 3 in only 11 months, a process which usually takes 18 months or
more," said Kevin Gaulin, president of CSC's Application Services Division
(ASD) in Falls Church, Va. "This accomplishment is a tribute to senior ASD
management and the effort they have put forth to strengthen our service
 offering."
Tom Robinson, president of CSC's Defense Group in Falls Church, Va., said,
"We are especially pleased with this most recent recognition of our commitment
to quality products and sound procedures. CMM achievement remains a constant
goal throughout our organization, and these accomplishments offer timely
examples of how we are able to work seamlessly with our clients."
The SEI ratings, developed by Carnegie Mellon University, help customers
identify reliable and low-risk suppliers of software products and services.
The ratings are earned through an exhaustive evaluation involving analysis and
review of a company's software development capability, processes and products.
CSC has numerous business units that have achieved CMM level ratings,
including three that have attained Level 5, the highest SEI rating.
