TXU Energy Services Launches Statewide Competitive Electric Service

Apr 23, 2001, 01:00 ET from TXU Energy Services

DALLAS, April 23 /PRNewswire Interactive News Release/ -- TXU Energy
Services, a subsidiary of TXU (NYSE: TXU), today announced its Texas Electric
Choice Pilot program recruitment efforts in all available markets, launching
its competitive business throughout the state.
Residential customers not currently served by TXU Electric can sign up
with TXU Energy Services and lower their electric bills -- saving an average
 $125 a year -- by calling 877-460-7066, or on-line at www.txu.com.
"We want to serve customers from one end of the state to the other," said
Rob McCoy, president of TXU Energy Services. "As the largest electric company
in Texas, we want to support the pilot's success and the creation of a robust
market. In fact, the number of business customers we can accept in the pilot
 has already been reached."
TXU Energy Services is TXU's new Retail Electric Provider and is the only
REP offering customers in every available market a choice during the pilot.
For example, TXU is the only REP bringing choice to more than 700,000 Central
Power & Light and West Texas Utilities customers.
"In addition to savings, we want our pilot customers to experience our
superior 24/7 customer service, reliability, new products and convenient
services -- such as choosing your own billing date, paying by bank draft and
budget billing," McCoy added. "We want to make it easy for customers to
choose, so we have no minimum contract term, no penalty for early termination
and no switching or exit fees."
Five percent of retail electric customers are eligible for the pilot
program if their current provider is an investor owned utility or, if not, the
provider has decided to participate in electric competition. Consumers can
check with their local electric company or TXU for more information.
TXU is a multinational leader in electric and natural gas services,
merchant trading, energy marketing, telecommunications and other energy-
related services. TXU is one of the largest energy services companies in the
world with more than $22 billion in revenue and $45 billion of assets. TXU
has 30,000 megawatts of power generation and sells 270 million megawatt-hours
of electricity and 2.6 trillion cubic feet of natural gas annually. TXU
delivers or sells energy to 11 million customers primarily in the US, Europe
and Australia. More information is available at www.txu.com.
TXU Energy Services is not the same company as TXU Electric & Gas and is

to buy TXU Energy Services' products to continue to receive quality regulated
services from TXU Electric & Gas.
