Tyco Electronics Expands Into Power Tool Switch Market

Apr 02, 2001, 01:00 ET from Tyco Electronics

HARRISBURG, Pa., April 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Tyco Electronics today announced
that it has entered the power tool switch market to complement its existing
product lines. Tyco Electronics' new power tool switch product line includes
AC variable speed and on/off trigger switches, DC variable speed switches, DC
on/off switches and a line of industrial switches. The industrial tool switch
line includes industrial dynamic brake switches, industrial on/off switches
and AC/DC industrial dust resistant switches. These products, which were
added to the Tyco Electronics line through the recent addition of Eaton
Corporation's Power Tool business unit, complement the broad offering of
electrical terminals and splices that Tyco Electronics markets to tool
manufactures under the AMP brand. Tyco manufactures switches for other
applications under the Alcoswitch brand name.
Power tool switches from Tyco Electronics may be used in a number of
applications. The switches typically control motor speed on drills, circular
saws, grinders, miter saws and other portable and stationary tools.
Furthermore, these switches may be used in other non-tool trigger or rocker or
toggle switch activation applications. Typical features include a reversing
lever, an on/off lock and a speed dial. Switches for AC variable speed market
are available with half-wave and full wave electronics and are offered with
inline and overhang configurations. Typical current ratings for AC variable
speed switches range from 4A to 10A. Plug-in termination is standard and a
 patented contact design is employed.
The J series switch has an easily configurable design which meets
international standards and is capable of on/off, half-wave or full wave
electronics. A 3mm contact gap is standard and meets European specifications.
Wires can be screwed in or plugged in.
A full line of professional grade switches, industrial tool grade switches
and utility switches are available. These switches feature current ratings up
to 20A, locking capability and the option of either trigger or rocker
 activation.
