Understanding Cancer - A New National Media Initiative Assists Cancer Patients in Making Informed Treatment Decisions
Charles Regan joins Schulhof & Associates to head up Your Health-Your Decision Understanding Cancer Initiative
SANTA BARBARA, Calif., May 3, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Schulhof & Associates today announced the launch of an innovative cancer information network, and the appointment of an experienced industry executive to lead it. Charles Regan will be the director responsible for developing the Your Health–Your Decision Understanding Cancer Initiative, a unique partnership between nationally recognized cancer treatment facilities and a network of 166 local television stations. This network represents all of the major broadcast networks in 90 markets across the country.
"The Understanding Cancer Initiative will offer those diagnosed with cancer a groundbreaking resource for understanding their best treatment options," said Carl Schulhof, principal of Schulhof & Associates. "In Charlie, we've found an executive with the vision to develop new multi-media channels in collaboration with public and private organizations."
Regan comes to Schulhof & Associates from the National Geographic Society, where he served as senior vice president specializing in developing strategic alliances and media partnerships.
"Being diagnosed with cancer can be devastating," Regan said, "and the process of deciding on treatment is changing dramatically. Our Understanding Cancer Initiative is designed to meet the evolving needs of patients and hospitals today."
Of the approximately 1.7 million people diagnosed with cancer each year, it is estimated that some 250,000 will seek treatment outside of their geographic areas. Because cancer treatment is a $180 billion market, there is a growing trend for top-tier cancer treatment centers to reach out nationally to attract patients from outside their markets.
"The Understanding Cancer Initiative will provide a vital link between hospitals and patients," said Regan. "It will target newly-diagnosed individuals with specific information about their treatment options so they can make the best decisions, and it will give cancer centers a focused audience."
The only program of its kind, the Understanding Cancer Initiative will provide local support in multiple markets to hospitals that want to reach patients outside their normal service areas and increase market share. Local media support will including co-funding and co-branding to extend credibility and impact.
"We are leveraging our successful track record of over 35 years of developing media partnerships with 96 broadcasters in 44 markets," said Schulhof. "Like all of our campaigns, the Understanding Cancer Initiative benefits all involved. Those diagnosed with cancer gain a better understanding of their treatment options; cancer centers expand their markets, patient census and revenue; local TV stations that air the campaign establish a valuable new business relationship and way to serve their communities."
