United Industrial Wins $7.1 Million Contract Award On Ongoing C-17 Maintenance Training Program

 United Industrial Corporation (NYSE:   UIC) today announced that its AAI
 Engineering Support, Inc. (ESI) subsidiary has been awarded a $7.1 million
 initial funding contract from the U.S. Air Force for work on its ongoing C-17
 Maintenance Training Program.  This program is currently valued at
 $142.8 million.
     Under the contract, United Industrial will provide an Aircraft Maintenance
 Trainer for the Mississippi Air National Guard supporting the C-17 (Block 12)
 aircraft.  The work is expected to be completed by October 2003.
