Universal Living Wage rolls out Interactive website on Labor Day
Labor Day plus 1 (Sept 8) is our 14th Annual Bridge the Economic Gap Day
AUSTIN, Texas, Sept. 4, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- /House the Homeless Inc. /- The Universal Living Wage Campaign launched Bridge the Economic Gap Day in 2001. The Campaign now rolls out an all New Interactive Website at www.UniversalLivingWage.org.
Thousands of businesses, unions, faith-based organizations and non-profits have pledged their support for the concept of the Universal Living Wage. Folks from these organizations will, for the 14th year, be getting on bridges all across America to carry our message forward for one hour on Sept 8th, 2015.
The ULW creates a paradigm shift that finally fixes the Federal Minimum Wage once and for all. It indexes the Federal Minimum Wage to the local cost of housing using the HUD Fair Market Rents. In this fashion, it will ensure that no matter what the cost of housing rises to, if people put in 40 hours of work, (be it from one job or more), they will be able to afford basic food, clothing, shelter, public transportation and be able to afford access to emergency rooms, no matter where that work is done throughout the US. This will conservatively end economic Homelessness for over 1,000,000 people and prevent economic homelessness for all 20,000,000 minimum wage workers. A comprehensive list of our endorsing organizations can be found in our supporting book:Looking Up at the Bottom Line, and on our New dynamic/interactive Website: www.UniversalLivingWage.org
