BOULDER, Colo., Nov. 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- In the wake of allegations of bias at popular news sources such as Trending News at Facebook and the prevalence of fake news, UprightNews.com is a political news aggregator that allows readers to express their opinions and easily find news from a variety of sources and viewpoints. The site lets users rate the political bias of each article. The average opinion for each article is displayed in a graphic by each link, giving readers the ability to see at a glance the perceived bias of the article. Along with this graphic, a "Warp Button" is displayed next to each article, which allows users to find articles on the same topic, but from the opposite political point of view, with a single click.
While articles from all political viewpoints are displayed by default, this can easily be changed to show only liberal or conservative articles. Unlike other aggregators, editors do not choose which articles are displayed on the site. Instead, users submit articles to be included. Each submission is screened against a list of approved news sites to prevent inclusion of fake news. Each day the liberal article most liked by conservatives, and the conservative article most liked by liberals, is displayed by the "Best of the Left" and "Best of the Right" options.
"I just created the news website that I wanted to go to every morning," said Upright News founder and CEO Ed O'Malley. "Most Americans are trapped in an information bubble of one sort or another. If we can make it easier for people to get a fuller picture of the news, issues, and our politicians, we might be happier with the candidates we choose for office," he added.
As more news sources from both traditional and untraditional publishers compete for readership, UprightNews.com makes it easy for readers to not only access a greater number of news sources but also access a wider variety of opinions. "As Upright News encourages users to read a broader range of news sources, this will increase the readership for publishers," O'Malley said. "I hope we can serve to strengthen the news industry and help make high-quality journalism remain profitable in all its forms."
