Customer Return on Investment

Apr 10, 2001, 01:00 ET from VERITAS Software Corporation

PALM DESERT, Calif., Storage Networking World, April 10 /PRNewswire/ --
VERITAS Software Corporation (Nasdaq: VRTS), The Data Availability Company,
today announced that it has entered into a strategic agreement with
LSI Logic Storage Systems to offer its mutual customers heterogeneous host
operating system support. VERITAS and LSI have cooperated to certify VERITAS
 Foundation Suite(TM) and VERITAS Cluster Server(TM) with LSI's MetaStor(R)
E-Series storage system family that offers heterogeneous host operating system
support, LUN masking and advanced diagnostics.
This method of consolidating enterprise storage allows end users to reduce
administrative costs by simplifying diagnostics of devices on the fiber
channel loop and extending LUN masking capabilities. Each of the storage
arrays may have up to 16 partitions and up to 128 volumes per partition. The
increased functionality further addresses customers' diverse multiplatform
needs, by scaling to meet growing enterprise network demands.
"By integrating with VERITAS Software, we are committed to supporting
heterogeneous hosts and partitions for the open-systems market, said
Gerard Meluso, director of alliances, LSI Logic Storage Systems. "In this
industry, concerted efforts between hardware and software vendors are
critical. We rely on leading storage software, VERITAS, to help our customers
address issues that can't be resolved exclusively by a hardware
 implementation."
"LSI and VERITAS deliver industry-standard hardware and software that
increases the availability of our customers' business critical data," said
Robin Purohit, vice president of product management, Availability Products,
VERITAS Software. "Both our technology and storage strategy complement one
another, enabling the two companies to offer a combined solution that
consolidates our customers' servers and storage, reducing administrative costs
 and increasing ROI."

     About VERITAS Cluster Server(TM)
VERITAS Cluster Server is an architecture-independent availability
management solution designed to proactively manage application service groups
and allow customers to manage high-availability systems in multi-platform
environments. Each service group consists of an application and all hardware
and software resources necessary for delivering service to clients.
VERITAS Cluster Server provides automatic and manual service group fail-over
from one server to any other server in the cluster, allowing customers to
manage both planned and unplanned downtime. VERITAS Software supports an
extensive list of application agents and supports sophisticated features, such
as cascading service group fail-over and tight integration with VERITAS Volume
Manager(TM) to support large SAN configurations. Allowing up to 32 nodes
within a single cluster, VERITAS Cluster Server is available for Solaris,
HP/UX and Windows NT, and supports more third-party storage configurations
than any other clustering product. Customers may also purchase a VERITAS
Database Edition(TM)/HA bundle, which includes VERITAS Cluster Server, for
major applications such as Oracle 8i.

     About VERITAS Foundation Suite(TM)
Through its inclusion of VERITAS Volume Manager and VERITAS File
System(TM), VERITAS Foundation Suite forms the core technologies needed for
higher performance, availability and management of multi-platform enterprise
and SAN environments. VERITAS Volume Manager offers disk use analysis, RAID
techniques, and the dynamic configuration of disk storage while a system is on
line. These tools eliminate the need for servers to be taken off line. VERITAS
File System augments UNIX file management with continuous availability,
increased I/O, and up-to-date structural integrity. The solution also delivers
scalable performance and the capacity to meet the increasing demands of user
 loads in client/server environments.
