Vesta and Bast Sign Joint Marketing Agreement

May 23, 2001, 01:00 ET from Vesta Broadband Services Inc.

DALLAS, May 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Vesta Broadband Services, an internet
infrastructure company that develops and markets solutions for distribution of
digital content over broadband networks, and Bast, Inc., a privately held
company with a recently introduced Video-on-Demand hardware set-top product
with a television display have signed a non-exclusive marketing agreement to
embed NetMovies, Vesta's IP-based video-on-demand (VOD) software service, in
 Bast's set-top products.
Vesta's NetMovies gives subscribers the ability to rent or buy high-
quality video and audio through broadband-enabled set-top boxes as well as
PCs. NetMovies provides full local viewer control that does not demand
additional network bandwidth, offers definable rental periods, convenient
billing options to support pay-per-rental or subscription services and a
configurable VOD application for use with third-party software platforms.
NetMovies successfully addresses the limitations of streaming and downloading
as delivery methods across today's last-mile broadband networks.
"NetMovies allows us to offer the 'Holy Grail' application, Video-on-
Demand, on our set-top products," said Robert Pincus, President of Bast. The
ease of use, scalability and inexpensive deployment aspects of NetMovies
combined with its network-savvy Blockbursting(TM) technology makes NetMovies
an exciting opportunity for our Linux based product."
"Bast's set-top VOD product is ideally suited to our applications.
Besides video-on-demand, email and web-browsing, we will be able to distribute
games, audio, software and educational content with Bast's hardware and our
software platform," said Venky Adivi, chief marketing officer for Vesta.
The announcement follows a successful porting of Vesta's NetPlayer, the
NetMovies client, to the Bast set-top product by Vesta's product development
 group.
